WDSF Open Senior III Latin – Gold goes to couple from Hessen
“The last time I won, the order of the top two places was exactly the same.” After four rounds of competition in the WDSF Open Senior III Latin competition, Marc Becker and Nicole Giersbeck were delighted to claim the very top spot on the podium.
The competition had kicked off in the afternoon with a field of 42 couples. The final round featured five couples from Germany and one from Finland. With an impressive tally of 52 first places (out of a possible 55), the bronze medalists from the German Championshipss — who are also the reigning Hessian Champions — won the competition in commanding fashion. The battle for second place, however, proved to be a nail-biter. Achim Hobl and Kerstin Hahn placed second three times and fifth twice; following the final round, they were tied on points with the Finnish couple, Jani Kallio and Satu Vuorjoki. Under the Skating System, their three second-place marks were sufficient to secure second place in the final standings, leaving the Finnish couple to take third.
Incidentally, the tournament Marc Becker referred to after the final was a national competition held in 2018. From 2019 onwards, the Senior divisions at the “Hessen tanzt” event have been contested at the international level.
